Countdown to the event taking place on Summer 2017
The ‘Snowdon Challenge Festival’ incorporates a charitable arm , which aims to support UK hospices, palliative care and Macmillan nurses, by taking terminally ill people ( if sanctioned by a Doctor) on their last big challenge in life, to walk to the top of Snowdon, the biggest mountain in both England and Wales, whilst raising awareness of the invaluable work these charities do. There is also the option of a representative from the Hospice taking part instead. Once the participants have completed their personal goals on the mountain, they, their family and friends are invited to join the festival as a celebration of their achievement.
The development of such a challenge and Festival has been talked about in the region for some time. In addition to the challenge, the Festival will pay homage and celebrate all that is good about the Mountain, which sits in the heart of the region. Snowdonia benefits from some 10 million visitors a year-three times the population of Wales as a Nation and deserves such an event. We are thrilled to have the support of Gwynedd Council and are also committed to ensuring the local community are involved and have dedicated time to meeting with and extending an invite to, the local community in Llanberis, who too, are supportive of this venture.
The inaugural Snowdon Challenge and Festival will be launched in May of 2016 with a major UK headliner act being lined up to take part. The main hub of the festival will be on the wonderful Vaynol estate. This sits on the banks of the Menai straits - 2 miles from the center of the city of Bangor in North Wales. This magnificent venue had also played host to many top name events, including Radio 1's Big weekend and Bryn terfel'ssfaenol festival.
